For next week, try to read up to the end of Chapter 4.
I know folks may be having a rough time of getting ahold of the book, so this week’s discussion is all about expectations. What do you know about the “Radium Girls”? How about the broader nuclear-related industry in general? What are your expectations for the book?
I had this in my pile so this moved it to the top and just finished it. I didn't know anything about this before reading it but this book has been recommended so much, I'm glad it's the pick this time. One thing that rings true is that we haven't come very far in over 100 years.
I have read the book and have used it in classes with high school seniors. It is about the exploitation of women, young, vulnerable women, to provide a product that has absolutely no value to anyone. These women die horribly.
Actually until this book was introduced for our club to vote on had never heard of the "Radium Girls". I'm really surprised Drunk History hasn't done an episode on them yet. Anyways I look forward to finding out much more about the Radium Girls & all.
