We continue discussions with part two of If Then: How the Simulmatics Corporation Invented the Future by Jill Lepore. Things are getting heavy in the sixties and with the good people of Simulmatics.
Here’s some questions to kick us off:
What did you think about Simulmatics and the people who worked there? As the company formed, what stuck out to you?
What did you think about their work melding politics and data? How about that New York Times deal?
What did you think of the anti-computing protests at California universities?
The company proposes to engage principally in estimating probable human behavior by the use of computer technology! Black Votes Matter! Kennedy before Labor Day! Corn Belt Dialect! Still totally amazed by how far ahead of it's time Simulmatics was!! Such a gripping book. On a side note this book has me wanting to go binge Mad Men and revisit Don Draper. As it is while reading this at night I've been sipping on Canadian Club on the rocks. Thankfully no urges to chain smoke Lucky Strikes or anything.
Will have more shortly but damn the stuff about the Kennedy Assassination was incredibly well written
